Elon Musk co-founded X.com in 1999, which later became PayPal and sold to eBay in 2002 — the payout that bankrolled everything after.
He poured that money into SpaceX (2002) and Tesla (joined 2004), betting on reusable rockets and electric cars when both ideas were widely dismissed by the industry.
SpaceX became the first private company to send astronauts to the ISS, and Tesla forced the entire auto industry to go electric. He later added Neuralink, The Boring Company, and X (formerly Twitter) to the portfolio.
In 2024, Musk became the world's first person to reach a $1 trillion net worth, driven primarily by his stake in Tesla and the rising valuation of SpaceX.
